Carrie Hoeppner, Central Director of Communications for the Florida Department of Children and Families specializes in breaking news and crisis media.

Based out of Orlando – Hoeppner works with local and national media in one of the nation’s top 20 markets. She has a wealth of experience working in public information, with an intricate knowledge of deadlines and news angles – critical to the success of any organization during breaking news. She’s appeared on behalf of the Florida Department of Children and Families on CNN, Dateline, Court TV and is a regular guest of WOFL’s Fox 35 in Orlando.

Hoeppner’s true passion is in crisis media, which she describes as both a challenge – but also an opportunity to be part of a team that is helping others. She has deployed to numerous disaster and recovery operations and was a key public information officer in the 2010 Repatriation of U.S. citizens during Haiti Evacuation Operations. The Repatriation Operation was the single largest point of re-entry for American citizens during an emergency evacuation on foreign soil in U.S. history. It required 24-hour national and local press coverage over a span of 4 weeks. Hoeppner has worked scenes including tornadoes, homicides, plane crashes, and presently manages stories related to human tragedy.

Hoeppner has been in press operations for law enforcement and child protection. Her media philosophy is one that encompasses honesty, with urgency and transparency. She believes that a media professional cannot make bad news go away, but that a true professional should help navigate an operation through crisis and most importantly – not make it worse. Her work in child protection has given her a unique perspective, one that serves as a constant reminder to focus on the response to the human aspect first – “you have to address and respond to the human part first, whether that means to right a wrong or to comfort someone who is in pain – do the right thing, the rest falls into place.”

Carrie offers individualized media training to individuals or organizations, customized to meet their press needs or to help them overcome any anxiety over working with the mass media. Contact Carrie today at CarrieHoeppner@aol.com for more information.
